From the area of the Bulgarian town of Karnobat comes the exquisite grape brandy Kehlibar. This traditionally crafted and carefully produced rakia combines the distinctive characteristics of the terroir with the ancient distilling methods of the Thracian tribes that settled in the Balkans in ancient times. The high-quality grapes for the noble distillate are grown in the Thracian lowlands near Karnobat. Vinprom Karnobat uses only grapes from its own vineyards for this high-proof specialty.

The grape varieties used for Rakia Kehlibar are Muscat Ottonel, Red Misket, Dimiat and Ugni Blanc (Trebbiano). Immediately after distillation, small pieces of amber are placed in the spirit barrels, which give the Rakia its distinctive color. The amber also gives the spirit its name - Kehlibar is in fact the Bulgarian name for the popular gemstone. For several centuries, people have known and appreciated the healing and purifying powers of the natural stone. The amber is said to eliminate residual toxins even in grape brandy and give Kehlibar Rakia its typical purity and balanced taste.

The amber gives Kehlibar Rakia its shiny golden amber color. The hand-picked, fully ripe grapes from organic farming provide the fine muscat aroma. After distillation, the grape brandy matures for three years in oak barrels. The extended storage intensifies the bright golden yellow color of the spirit and provides refined wood nuances that enrich the wonderful taste of Rakia.

On the palate, Kehlibar brandy unfolds its complex body rich in beguiling fruit flavors and elegant wood accents. The Rakia is mild and distinctly harmonious. The long-lasting finish reveals mysterious nutmeg notes and fine oak nuances. This high-proof specialty is served well chilled, especially with vegetable salads and cold appetizers. It is also drunk with still mineral water. Matured cheeses, air-dried meat specialties and game are also excellently accompanied by the intense Rakia.
