Tasted by the sommelier:
From the Logodaj winery, which is located in the Struma Valley of the south-western part of Bulgaria, comes this varietal pure Melnik 55.
A beautiful authentic wine of the country, which presents itself in the glass already with a very dark garnet color.
On the nose, full aromas of black berries, light cherry paired with a smoky note come to the fore.
On the palate, the autochthonous Melnik 55 berry, after getting a little air shows its full potential! And reminiscent of ripe cherries, black tea, mocha, and some vanilla, while the complex and round body reveals itself with its velvety tannins, very flattering, moreover, the wine is long and warm in the finish!
This unbeatable wine, is a special food companion to hearty Bulgarian dishes, such as bean dishes, cheese casserole, lamb and stews. In our case, we followed a traditional dish - Gjuveche - oven vegetables with Bulgarian buffalo cheese.
In detail:
Early Melniker grape is a unique grape variety grown only in southwestern Bulgaria. Here, winemakers have transformed and retained the unique, rich and distinct aromas and flavors to preserve the harmony of French oak barrels and produce a wine for connoisseurs.
The grapes for this red, dry Melnik 55 are harvested in September from selected vineyards with controlled cultivation, ripeness and quality of fruit. The wine is made with special technology of the winemakers, preserving the potential and special characteristics of the grapes. The grapes are selected twice - in the vineyard and in the cellar, using a double storage table. The selection of the whole grapes took place on the first table, then they are mechanically peeled and the separation of the damaged and unripe grapes passed through the peeler took place on the second table. The maceration takes place for 18 days and the wine is fermented at a temperature of 28 - 30 ° C.
It matured for 8 months in French oak barrels and 6 months in bottle before being released to the market. Melnik 55 has a dark ruby color with its own brilliance. The feeling of ripe cherries merges with the scent of spices, stone and vanilla. It has a velvety fruity taste with melted tannins. The pleasant finish is magnified with an aftertaste of cherries, nuts and chocolate.
