Unfortunately, Bulgarian wines have not yet achieved the level of popularity in Germany that wines from other southern European countries have. Yet the Balkan country offers ideal conditions for winegrowing. The mild climate and the calcareous soils offer ideal conditions for grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The most famous Bulgarian red wine - Tsar Simeon Royal Heritage 2010 - is a blend of both grape varieties, with Cabernet Sauvignon being the main component of the blend.
 
The cuvée was created in honor of the 75th birthday of the last Bulgarian King Tsar Simeon. Simeon II, whose civil name was Simeon Borisov Sakskoburggotski, was still a child during his reign (1943 - 1946). Nevertheless, he enjoys high recognition in Bulgaria and is considered one of the most influential personalities in his country. He was Prime Minister of Bulgaria from 2001 to 2005. Thus, it was a challenge for the winemakers of the Nova Zagora wine region to create a wine of the highest possible quality. This they succeeded in doing. The grapes all come from the traditional Traki valley. The vines, which are over thirty years old, have matured on the forest and sandy soils typical of the area. The grapes are hand-picked and the aging is done in barrique barrels. The finished wine is then bottled in exclusive designer bottles.
 
The Bulgarian red wine "Tsar Simeon Royal Heritage" is characterized by a full bouquet of berries and cassis. Due to the barrique barrels, one also tastes a slight oak and tobacco note. On the palate, an aroma of ripe berries, cocoa and vanilla unfolds. In addition, the red wine is characterized by a pleasant spiciness. The ideal drinking temperature is between sixteen and eighteen degrees Celsius. The red wine goes very well with roasted and grilled meat, but also with pizza or pasta with heavy sauces. Bulgarian red wine is also highly recommended with aromatic hard cheeses.
