An interesting Merlot from Bulgaria from Zagreus winery - which is known for its pure organic vineyards in the country and the world. Merlot Starite Lozya has a deep red color with velvety nuances, which is made from 100% Merlot grapes. Of course, Zagreus Winery also offers a Merlot, and this one comes from a Single Wineyard!

Grape variety: 100% Merlot

Tasting Notes:
It shows the typical deep red and fruity, plum, fig and chocolate flavors which are harmoniously interwoven. Its body is rich with smooth flavors, the emphasis in the elegant body is clearly on the fruit with an attractive velvety finish. The Merlot grapes come from quite old vines and are carefully selected, resulting in wonderful aromas of currant, blueberry, plum, cinnamon and cocoa, with outstanding velvety tannin notes and an unending finish. It pairs beautifully with spicy red meats, game and aged cheeses or solo.

Region:
The Thracian Plain is part of the large southern Bulgarian wine region. It is well protected from cold winds north of the Balkan Mountains and further from the south central part of the Rhodopes.

Climate and soil:
Temperate with over 3,000 hours of sunshine during the year and over 110 clear days. Hot, dry summers with warm nights. Soft and warm winters without spring frosts. Sandy-loamy and calcareous soils.

Vinification:
This Single Vineyard Starite Lozya Merlot is also made using the Amarone technology where 50% of the Merlot grapes are dried for 2 to 3 months in airy rooms of the winery.
