History of the Logodaj Winery

The Logodaj Winery was founded in 1994 and is located in the heart of the picturesque Struma Valley. It is the sunniest and hottest part of Bulgaria, with a rich history and long traditions in wine production. The warm sun rays and the terrain contribute significantly to the grape harvest. The craftsmanship of the winemakers has been known for many years. Broad-leaved Melnik vine and early Melnik vine are grape varieties that are grown only in this part of the world along the Struma valley.

Logodaj has a vision

A little more than 10 years ago there was a revelation: the future of Bulgarian viticulture had to follow a new oenological path, in search of absolute quality and full harmony. To achieve this goal, the right place, the right time and the best people were needed. This is where the idea of the LOGODAY VINEYARD was born, a place of infinite potential, cultivated with wisdom and experience of its "artists", who want to create a new masterpiece with every vintage.

The Logodaj Winery is proud to work under the advice of the world-famous oenologist Riccardo Cotarella, who strictly follows his innovative technologies to create noble and harmonious wines.

Philosophy at the Logodaj Winery

Logodaj is a new and modern winery whose concept is to create delicious, multi-layered and complex wines with rich and concentrated fertility and harmony.

The company attaches great importance to the development and recognition of unique Bulgarian grape varieties all over the world.

The production depends on the type of vintage, the manual harvest is only done when the grapes are fully ripe. The grapes from each vineyard are fermented separately, taking into account a unique and valuable terroir.

Thanks to the men and women who put their hearts, heads and souls into their work throughout the year. The results are impressive, but even more evident in a fine glass of wine!

The Struma Valley in southwest Bulgaria

This region includes the southwestern parts of Bulgaria. The area is not large, but it has specific climatic conditions that are similar to those of the Mediterranean. In the valley of the Struma River grow native varieties, such as the early Melnik vine, the broad Melnik vine, Rouen, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

The resulting wines are characterized by warm southern tones in aroma and a wealth of impressions. Of particular interest are the wines made from a variety of the early Melnik vine, which are rich and sufficiently large and acquire exotic and very beautiful shades of color with age.

Logodajs local grape variety Melnik

Early Melnishka Loza or Melnik 55 is a hybrid grape variety, a cross between Shiroka Melnishka Loza and mixed pollen of Durif, Jurasson, Valdigie and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is common only in the region of Sandanski and Katuntsi. Suitable for the variety are humus-carbonate soils or sandy loam and warmer soils. It offers a relatively stable variety at low winter temperatures. The vines are sensitive to manna and odium. The grapes are resistant to grey rot.

The variety is medium ripe. The grapes ripen on 20 and 25 September. The vines grow very strongly, with very good fertility and good yield. The yield is about 1500 kg / ha. The cluster is medium sized, cylindrical-conical or winged with one wing, half paved. The grain is medium in size, oval and juicy. The cube is thick and dark blue with spots. The variety is used to make prepared wines with rich ruby red color, rich aroma and ageing potential.

Shiroka Melnishka Loza is a grape variety that is mainly spread in the Petrich and Sandanski region. It is a red variety with later high quality, well developed on slightly sloping soils with southern exposure. It offers regular yields with long pruning.
