The Zagreus winery is firmly convinced that what happens in the vineyard and in the consciousness determines the behavior in the bottle. It is about growing the best grapes under the best possible conditions and dedicating thoughts and intentions to produce a wine that reflects the best and most beautiful. It is about being attentive in the search for quality and giving the best to keep nature clean.

Vineyards of Zagreus Winery

The beginning of the vineyard was fixed in autumn 1998. Zagreus currently has 120 hectares of its own vineyards. The cultivated varieties are Mavrud, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot. The vine massif is located in one of the most favorable regions and climatic zones of Bulgaria - in the Plovdiv plain, which belongs to the Upper Thracian Plain. The main color of the soil is dark brown. In terms of climate, the region belongs to the continental transition area. The temperature climate is characterized by open winters and hot summers. The average annual air temperature is 12.3°C. The duration of the frost-free period is 210 days on average. The average annual rainfall is 565 mm. The region enters the zone of the longest sunshine duration, the annual average of which is 2293 hours. Under these conditions, in July, when the grapes ripen, there is a sunny average of 10 hours per day. The conditions are perfect for obtaining the raw material necessary for the quality of the wine and for collecting the grapes at full technological maturation.

Since 2010, the vineyards have been cultivated according to the European Union's regulations for organic production. In 2013, after a three-year probation period, the Zagreus company obtained a certificate for organic production. No synthetic pesticides and fertilizers or genetically modified organisms are used in the cultivation of wine. Only sulphuric acid preparations (blue vitriol, green vitriol) and extracts from plants and strains of microorganisms with insecticidal effects are used. The maintenance of a vineyard with such preparations is labor-intensive, as it requires more preventive measures and work.

The Zagreus Winery

The Zagreus winery is a modern complex with a complete production cycle, from the grapes to the wine bottle. It is equipped with the most modern fermentation plants, which allow to optimize and control all processes of vinification, aging, stabilization and bottling of wine. No synthetic chemicals are used during the vinification process. The yeast used for fermentation is guaranteed GMO-free. Only additives of natural origin extracted from natural products are allowed - vegetable, mineral, microorganisms without GMO. Sulphur dioxide, which is added before bottling to prevent oxidation, is half of the maximum permitted value for conventional wine.
