In addition, Darik operates a news portal for which more than 70 journalists work in all parts of Bulgaria and even international correspondents. On the occasion of the Day of the Winemakers, Darik reporters were guests at the Bononia Estate winery in 2020.

Trifon Day - an old Tradition

The Day of the Winemakers is celebrated in Bulgaria every year on February 14, parallel to Valentine's Day and the feast day of St. Cyril ( see Magazine article Trifon Day ). It is also known as Trifon Day. The holiday dates back to St. Trifon, who became a Christian martyr in the mid-3rd century and is venerated in Orthodoxy as the patron saint of gardeners and vintners. According to the new festive calendar, his day of honor has moved to February 1, but as the Day of the Winemakers and Vintners, it is still celebrated according to the old tradition on February 14.

Ceremonial inauguration of another 170 decares of vineyards

Periodically, Bononia Estate hosts celebrations on this occasion. This was also the case in 2020, when the venue was located in the vineyards between the villages of Gomotartsi and Koshava. This time, the special event was the consecration of another 170 decares or 17 hectares of land, which is to expand the then vineyard area of about 1,330 decares. Reason enough for high visit. The Darik reporters made out, among others, the deputy mayor of the municipality of Vidin, Svetoslav Skorchev, responsible for spatial planning and infrastructure development. The guests also included the Member of Parliament Rosen Zhivkov, the Deputy District Governor Lachezar Popivanov, as well as a whole range of representatives from local politics. In addition, of course, employees of Bononia Estate, as well as residents from the surrounding villages.

Wishes for health, prosperity and protection by St. Trifon

A blessing with holy water was performed by Archimandrite Isaac. He also wished health, prosperity and a good coming year to all present and especially to the leaders of Bononia Estate and their families.

Following this ceremony, Vice Mayor Skorchev took his turn. He addressed the Yotov family directly on behalf of Vidin Mayor Dr. Tsvetan Tsenkov. In doing so, he expressed his gratitude for the family's commitment to the revitalization of the municipality of Vidin, as well as the region as a whole. He also wished Bononia Estate to become one of the leading wineries, strengthening Bulgaria's reputation internationally with its high quality products. He continued with words of appreciation for the expansion of the winery, successful business development, as well as the creation of new jobs in the region, and then also wished the entire team of Bononia Estate health, prosperity and protection by St. Trifon.

To culminate the festivities, Darik reporters also attended the ritually performed first pruning of the year. All those present took part in the ritual and poured wine over the exemplary pruned vines, wishing that the coming vintage would be of special quality. This part is again followed by wishes for health, prosperity and protection from Saint Trifon.

The Tango Cats and their Style of Music

The Tango Cats play both well-known pieces and original compositions. Well-known composers whose pieces they have already performed include Astor Piazzolla, Richard Galliano, Troilo, Carlos Gardel or Moricone. The style of the Tango Cats is always extremely individual. The fusion of classical tango rhythms with their own creative influences creates a new musical style all their own. It is also never boring with regard to the instrumentation. Very often Tango Cats concerts are supported by well-known guest musicians. Also a dance floor is usually provided. So all passionate tango dancers can give free rein to their creativity.
