The history of Tango Cats

The Tango Cats were founded in 2016 by the pianist and singer Zornitsa Tsvetanova, her brother, the violinist Orlin Tsvetanov and the pianist Mladen Taskov and since then they have dedicated themselves to the passion for Argentine tango. All three members share an indestructible enthusiasm for this musical genre and have made it their goal to give it a very individual touch in their own pieces.

Zornitsa Tsvetanova

Zornitsa Tsvetanova

Zornitsa Tsvetanova became active as a musician early in life. As the daughter of the great Bulgarian composer Tsvetan Tsvetanov and the pianist Gergana Vladova, she was practically born to make music. She grew up in a musical home and learned to play the piano at the age of five. A few years later, as a young girl, she won numerous competitions at home and abroad and made a name for herself internationally. She made music her profession and completed her music studies at the Bulgarian National Music School Lubomir Pipkov in Sofia as well as at the Franz Liszt - Music Academy with Laser Berman and Ralph Natkemper in Germany. This was followed by a Master's degree at the Academy of Arts in Paris. Besides music, theater is also one of Tsvetanova's passions and she is studying acting with Tsvetana Maneva and Krikor Azaryan.

Orlin Tsvetanov

Zornitsa Tsvetanova's brother Orlin Tsvetanov is a true master of playing with different musical genres. In his very personal style he integrates influences from pop, jazz, underground, flamenco, classical music and tango. Like his sister, he studied in Bulgaria and Germany and made a name for himself internationally through numerous performances in various countries. His career to date has taken him to Germany, France, Austria, Belgium and Russia, among other countries.

Orlin Tsvetanov is known as a member of numerous ensembles and musical collaborations. Among others, he played with Lili Ivanova in the chamber orchestra "Sofia Soloists." Other musicians with whom he has already cooperated are for example: Juan Garcia Herreros, Veselin Marinov, Mariana Popova and many more. Of course, making music with his sister Zornitsa Tsvetanova, with whom he has been discovering a wide variety of musical styles since childhood, is still particularly close to his heart. This gave rise, for example, to the project "Classic meets Jazz in 2011."

Mladen Taskov

Pianist Mladen Taskov is the third member of the Tango Cats. He received his musical education at the Gnesini Academy of Music in Moscow and the State Academy of Music P. Vladigerov in Bulgaria. He has held and continues to hold various teaching positions, including in Buenos Aires and, since 2002, at the New Bulgarian University, the Lubomir Pipkov National Bulgarian Conservatory of Music, and Sofia Kliment Ohridski University.

Tasdov also acts as a passionate arranger for Tango Cats, creating the extraordinary tunes and compositions for the three musicians. His experience as an internationally respected musician, who has studied and taught on many continents, is of great benefit to him.

The Tango Cats and their Style of Music

The Tango Cats play both well-known pieces and original compositions. Well-known composers whose pieces they have already performed include Astor Piazzolla, Richard Galliano, Troilo, Carlos Gardel or Moricone. The style of the Tango Cats is always extremely individual. The fusion of classical tango rhythms with their own creative influences creates a new musical style all their own. It is also never boring with regard to the instrumentation. Very often Tango Cats concerts are supported by well-known guest musicians. Also a dance floor is usually provided. So all passionate tango dancers can give free rein to their creativity.
